Phoenix Suns Charities in partnership with the Helios Education Foundation surprised a Valley senior from Dysart High School with a four-year, full-tuition scholarship to Northern Arizona University. This is an annual initiative to provide a college scholarship to a deserving local student in need.

Founded in 2016, the idea for BG&rsquo;s Heart and Sole Shoe Drive came while Griner was driving home after practice and saw unhoused persons in the Arizona summer without shoes. BG and the Phoenix Mercury established a shoe drive in partnership with the Phoenix Rescue Mission. In 2022, with the help from fans and teams around the WNBA and NBA, the drive has collected more than 3,400 shoes donated and raised nearly $30,000 for the Phoenix Rescue Mission&nbsp;

In addition to arena naming rights, our long-term partnership with Footprint includes a commitment to exploring innovative collaborations to solve the sports and entertainment industry&rsquo;s sustainability challenges. The arena aims to become a center of sustainability by using Footprint&rsquo;s plant-based fiber alternatives to plastic throughout the venue. Fans visiting Footprint Center will find food served in Footprint&rsquo;s biodegradable, compostable and recyclable products as well as educational points about the positive impact of making a switch from single-use plastics in their everyday lives.

We are committed to doing our part to create meaningful change towards a more sustainable future.

Beginning in the 2022-23 NBA season, we significantly reduced single-use plastics by partnering with Coca-Cola to replace single-use plastic water bottles with sustainable aluminum canned Dasani drinking water in arena concessions. We introduced water refilling stations in multiple areas at Footprint Center with plans to increase availability in future seasons.

Phoenix Suns Charities recognized Mayer High School varsity basketball coach Nick Colquitt with the Spirit of Cotton Award. The annual award honors legendary former Suns head coach and Cotton Fitzsimmons by highlighting an outstanding Arizona high school basketball coach for their leadership, dedication and service to the community in helping guide and mentor student-athletes. Coach Colquitt received a $10,000 grant for use in the school&rsquo;s athletic program.

In 2023, PayPal extended our partnership to continue as the Suns' jersey sponsor and, as part of the enhanced multi-year deal, the organizations will now increase their focus on supporting small businesses throughout the Valley and elevating the fan experience by offering innovative payment solutions at the arena and online.&nbsp;

Prior to the 2023 WNBA season, Brittney Griner and the Mercury announced a partnership with Bring Our Families Home to raise awareness and support those impacted by wrongful detainment in other nations. In 2023, the BG and the Mercury debuted a 30-foot mural on the west side of Footprint Center. The design portrays 14 current detainees and features a QR code to BringOurFamiliesHome.com. Throughout the 2023 Mercury season, fans can write letters of hope to detainees and letters to call civic leaders to help.

Bring Our Families Home Campaign

The Suns teamed up with FirstBank for the FirstBank Empowerment Awards, a season-long program designed to strengthen marginalized communities through economic empowerment. The program expands on the Los Suns Small Business MVP Award that the Suns started in 2018 and provides a financial grant and marketing value to deserving minority-owned small businesses across the Valley.

The Suns and Mercury have supported the Native American Basketball Invitational (NABI) since it was founded in 2003. The Tribal youth basketball tournament has grown through the years and now hosts more than 500 inter-tribal games each year, with the championship game held at Footprint Center each year. In 2023, the Suns designed all-new NABI uniforms that drew inspiration from the team&rsquo;s 2022-23 turquoise ORGINATIV uniforms.&nbsp;

To elevate the game day experience and demand of high-speed data, Verizon engineers replaced and enhanced the in-building system at Footprint Center in downtown Phoenix. Verizon hosted a 5G Innovation Session with its longtime partners the Suns and Mercury to demonstrate a range of forward-looking scenarios that leverage the power of 5G and Mobile Edge Computing, including real-time container tracking, collaboration robots, video scene analytics monitoring manufacturing assembly, real-time crowd analytics, interactive cityscapes, and Verizon Frontline&rsquo;s Tactical Humanitarian Operations Response (THOR) and Mobile Utility Technology Transport (MUTT) vehicles.

5G Innovation Session at Footprint Center

The Suns, Mercury and Footprint Center have launched an all-new mobile app experience - the first ever to combine two teams with their venue in one app - for fans to consume content, live in-game stats, and engage with other fans across the world. Fans can also manage their mobile tickets and receive all the information needed for Footprint Center&rsquo;s concerts and other live events. Whether you&rsquo;re cheering from your couch or from the stands, the Suns-Mercury-Footprint Center App is a must-have companion to enhance your experience with The Valley&rsquo;s best sports and live entertainment.
