Grizzlies, Sam’s Club helping victims of Hickory Hill tornadoes; calling on public for additional assistance

Memphis, March 7, 2008 – The tornadoes that ripped through the Hickory Hill area last month devastated numerous local families, and the Grizzlies and Sam’s Club have teamed up to try to help them get back on their feet.

Memphis Grizzlies players Rudy Gay, Mike Conley and Kwame Brown are each donating $3,000 to the Hickory Hill Boys and Girls Club, who have created an honorarium for the families affected by the tornadoes, while Sam’s Club is adding a $1500 donation.

The Grizzlies and Sam’s Club are also calling on the public to help contribute. The money collected will allow families to purchase food, clothing and household goods.

To help families affected by the storms, fans can send checks made out to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis, who will allocate the funds to Hickory Hill. Checks can be sent to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis, 44 S. Rembert, Memphis, TN, 38104. In the memo line, write “MGTF” (Memphis Grizzlies Tornado Fund).

Donations can also be made online. Please note the “special instructions” option when donating online.

“Last month’s tornadoes turned the lives of dozens of families in the Hickory Hill area upside down, and the donations being made by our players and Sam’s Club are a small way of helping restore their lives,” said Mike Redlick, Memphis Grizzlies Executive Vice President of Business Operations. “In addition to our players, our fans can also provide assistance to their Mid-South neighbors. All the money raised will be going to families and children who desperately need basic amenities as they get their lives back together.”
