Memphis Grizzlies inviting fans to re-opening of Reading and Learning Center sponsored by Hilton Hotels Corporation

Memphis, March 27, 2008 – The Memphis Grizzlies and Hilton Hotels Corporation are partnering to develop Reading and Learning Centers across the mid-South, the first of which is the re-opening of the Center at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library. On Tuesday, April 1 at 6 p.m., the Grizzlies and Hilton Hotels Corporation are inviting fans and media to attend the re-opening event.
We have teamed up to touch up the paint, update pictures, and purchase new furniture from Grizzlies’ partner Ashley Furniture HomeStore in an effort to update the room and make it more appealing for teenagers. The library has created new events and activities for teens that will take place in the updated room.
In attendance at the re-opening will be Grizzlies guard Casey Jacobsen, Marilyn Hughes, Manager, Community Relations for Hilton Hotels Corporation, and Kennon McCloy, Library Director. There will be prizes and giveaways at the event.
Memphis Grizzlies Reading and Learning Centers and Corners are located in various schools, libraries and nonprofit organizations throughout the Memphis community and surrounding areas to provide kids with greater access to books and technology. These centers serve as study locations for children and young adults as well as an area for Grizzlies All-Star Reading Team members to host Reading Time Outs.
The re-opening of the location at the central library is one of six scheduled to open over a two-year period with Hilton Hotels Corporation.
In addition, following the grand re-opening, Jacobsen will be hosting another meeting with the Grizz Kidds Book Club, where they will discuss this month’s book, The Phantom Tollbooth.
